This Reception class is taught by Miss Austin and is supported by Mrs Shears.
Johnson Class is named after Amy Johnson (see picture below). She set many records in her career as an Aviator, her most famous record being the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia in 1930.
Reception homework consists of daily reading and daily phonics practise and also the use of Mathletics weekly. Please comment in your children’s reading record when they have read so we can change their book. Any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!
Things to Remember
There are many things to remember when you come to school, here are a few..
- A pair of wellies to stay in school
- An old waterproof coat to stay in school
- A sun hat (when its sunny)
- PE bag with shorts, t-shirt, outdoor sweat pants/joggers and plimsolls
- An old shirt for messy activities
- Book bag
- Reading record and reading book (to be brought in everyday)
- Phonic packs (to be brought in everyday)
To help with independence your children will be expected to remember to give in any letters from their book bags and also to put their reading books in the box to be changed, they also need to hand in their menus. But don’t worry, we will help them out for the first half term!!
Our PE afternoon will be Wednesdays. Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is in school daily as we may use the kit at other times. Please also ensure all of your children's uniform is named; it is very hard to find the owner of trousers and dresses which all look the same! Our focus this term will be ball skills.
Show and Tell
Show and Tell
To make show and tell a more exciting and special occasion for your children we are introducing the ‘Presenters Pouch of Pride!’ There will be 5 pouches sent home to 5 children on a Friday for your children to fill with something special, which they would like to share with their classmates ready the following Friday. Children are encouraged to bring in items that are special and interesting which they can present to the class, they could practise with you at home! Creative ideas are the best! Some possibilities might include gifts, trophies, art, special toys, projects, photos and pictures. Please ensure children do not bring in valuable or breakable items. The item needs to fit in the pouch with the zip fastened. Please could the empty pouch be returned the Monday after the Friday they have presented.
Show and tell is a superb opportunity for your children to practise their speaking and listening skills, as well as having to chance to ask and answer questions. It is also fantastic for children who need a little boost in confidence by talking about something they love.
Any questions please don’t hesitate to talk to one of the foundation stage team.
Johnson Class Plea!
We are working on developing our outdoor area this term and ask the children for inspiration. Please check back here as we may be on the hunt for items!
Our first project/s is to build a water wall and mud kitchen. Please let us know if you have any old pots and pans etc which we could use to make delicious mud pies, similarly if you have any tubing or pipes to use for our water wall they would be most appreciated.
Dates to Remember

Miss Gowler started in reception after October half term and has been a fantastic addition to the team. She is not new to the school but had some time away to have a baby!
Miss Gowler's favourite things are sleeping and chocolate cake.
Miss Gowler does not like any creepy crawlies especially worms, which we found out when we were planting our seeds!!
Our first topic for this half term is Growing! We will be talking all about how to grow plants and animals and investigate farms and farming. We have already had a huge tractor come to visit and planted some plants which were donated from parents (Thank you!). See below at some of the pictures from the topic so far...

Wow Moments/Learning Journeys
You will be given WOW moments on your home visits, this is a certificate for you to fill in when your child has done something marvelous at home. It is vital that we use your knowledge of your children as well as our class assessments. These achievements will be displayed in our classroom and then in their learning journeys. Please continue to use these for the whole year as the children love to share them with the class and the teachers. It makes a fantastic home school connection so please let me know if you run out!
During your child's time in reception they will have a learning journey. This learning journey documents your childs progress and achievements over the year in all 17 areas of learning. The learning journeys consist of photos, pieces of work, observations, wow moments, next steps, the child’s voice (their own reflections) and also the parents voice. The children love to look at them as time goes on as do parents so please feel free to come and have a look at your child’s learning journey, these will also be available at parents evening.
